New dryer. Delivery guy used “pipe stick” soft compound on the gas dryer flex hose. Is this safe?

Hi /r/Plumbing, I got a new dryer installed a week ago. To seal the gas line (flex hose) he took out something that looked like a large stick of Chap-stick™ lip balm and rubbed it all over the pipe threads. Then he screwed the flex hose on. Is this safe? I’ve read some posts here and online about different types of pipe sealants for different applications, but little in the way of this compound, and it goes by different names depending on the manufacturer. So far I’ve only heard of teflon tape and “pipe dope,” which sounds funny tbh, and I had never seen this third “stick” type of pipe sealant before. submitted by /u/eaglebtc [link] [comments]
