Another 2020 Rheem gas water heater with a bad valve, but plumber wants to replace extras

I have a Rheem gas water heater (MFG 06/2020) installed late 2020 and used fairly sparingly (attic water heater, few upstairs users), and some portion of the gas valve/controller has gone bad, as apparently is common on the internet with this recent design. Our plumber, whom I mostly trust, has been kind enough to handle dealing with the manufacturer for the warranty part (yay), but also wants to replace the thermocouple and the entire heating element. He couldn't give me a great reason, other than "starting fresh". For people that have experience dealing with this awful brand/model/generation, do you think this is necessary for a 1.5 year old water heater? Thanks. submitted by /u/swingthebodyelectric [link] [comments]
